Philosophy / Rationale

Bilingualism is one of the cornerstones of Singapore's education system. English Language is used as the working language for all as Singapore is a multi-racial, multilingual and multi-cultural society. However, as Singapore's history and culture are still rooted in Asia, the transmission of ethnic identity and culture is facilitated through the nation's bilingual policy. The Mother Tongue Languages curriculum is designed to cultivate ethnic and cultural identities as well as a love for the language.

华文文学是华族语言的艺术,是华族文化的精髓,因此学习华文文学可以使人提高审美鉴赏力。

华文文学是华人的精神生活和人文思想以及价值观的展现,可以使人超越现实的局限,达到对世界和人生真谛的深刻理解,从而对社会生活和生命有更深入的思考和感悟,因此学习华文文学可以提升人的道德水平。

华文文学是联系海内外华人情感的桥梁,也是海外华人的精神寄托,对于传承华族文化以及继承中华传统美德,有着巨大作用。

年级 3

内容/课题: 现代和当代大陆、台湾著名作家的作品。诗歌、小说、散文以及本地戏剧。

预期目标: 通过对文学作品的理解和分析,学会如何鉴赏作品,并能运用学到的知识进行创作。

年级 4

内容/课题: 从先秦时期到清代的优秀文学作品。古代散文、诗歌、词、小说以及相关背景知识。预期目标: 通过对作品的探讨,了解古代社会的文化风貌,理解古人的情怀。能够结合古代社会现实,客观评价古代文学作品。

Philosophy / Rationale

LANGUAGE COMPETENCY: Language is an essential tool of communication; therefore the purpose of learning a language is to facilitate effective communication and thinking.

CULTURAL QUOTIENT: Singapore is a multi-racial, multi-lingual and multi-cultural society. Learning the Chinese Language deepen students understanding and enhances their social competencies. This is especially important as it strengthens the social cohesion of youth in Singapore.
